When you leave your laptop plugged in 24/7 it will continue to draw power even if the battery is full. That is a waste of energy and money. It also affects the capacity level of the battery potentially costing a new battery. The solution is to take the battery out while the laptop is plugged into an outlet. It will save a few bucks a month on your electric bill, and potentially $100 for a new battery.

  1. This is very true. You should also avoid leaving it on over-night when its not in use. Some people have a habit of closing the laptop instead of shutting it down. Make sure you shut it down if your are not using it for an extended period of time. This will save your battery, electricity, and even your hard drives. Depending on what kind of hard drive, and the settings of your stand-by / sleep mode, a bump to the laptop while its closed could ruin your hard drive.

  2. Great tip and it makes perfect sense! I used an extension base for my last laptop which meant it stayed plugged in ALL the time. I essentially fried the battery because of doing that. I won’t make the same mistake with my new laptop! Thanks!
